Today: Cusco. Tomorrow: Machu Picchu.
I´ve been told MaPi will blow my mind. Man, I hope so.
Cusco is a cozy colonial city that enjoys a steady stream of tourists hoping to see MaPi. As a result, walking down the street you will be met with so many solicitors offering MaPi trips, massages, postcards, etc. So be prepared for headaches and guard your purse.
I came in yesterday at noon and immediately felt the shock of the elevation. Slight headache (gimme that coca!) and runny nose. It´s colder up here. Rain falls intermittently throughout the day. The English girls I met said it´s just like England! We looked at various tour operators - there´s so many that you should just take a few days to shop around for the best routes and prices. MaPi is definitely the crown jewel and there´s many ways to get to her. I don´t have a lot of time so I´m doing the day-trip, the train & bus deal, departing at 6AM and getting back at 9PM.
I´m staying at a decent hostel and got a room with a view. Loki is located on a steep hill so the trek back up from town should not be taken lightly, especially at this altitude. I figured out that they cut down costs by having really dim lights in the rooms and no plugs (at least in mine). But hey, they got free internet.
Stay tuned for more.
