I arrived here last night taken aback by the sky. You see, one doesn't typically see blue sky in Jakarta. Grey (cloudy or just polluted) is the more common color.
I grew up here but Jakarta has not been home in a really long time. Besides, my heart is still loafin' around the Americas somewhere. Maybe soon she'll realize - hey, can't be here forever!
While I wait for my soul to arrive, I thought I'd do some shopping. I shipped my stuff from Los Angeles to Jakarta and it won't be here until March sometime. And Emirates Air has conveniently put my luggage with the next Jakarta-bound flight, and not the one I was taking. So! I'm without my clothes. I'm wearing my grandmother's old skirt. I mean, vintage. It's cute. I should raid her closet more.
People remarked how bad traffic is in major cities like Los Angeles, Mexico City and Lima. All I gotta say is: come to Jakarta.
Some of you may also be wondering about the flood situation in Jakarta. Almost everything has receded back to normal, though cleaning up will take a while. One hopes the government will move toward prevention (almost guaranteed there will be another bad rain season soon) by creating appropriate infrastructure in a timely manner. But, as I've heard from many, this is wishful thinking.
More on Jakarta later. Thanks for reading.
And I know, I know. Photos. Workin' on it!!
