Reality Check

Obviously I am having a blast. But I would like to sprinkle some perspective because I realize I romanticize a lot on blogs, and rightly so since it is a haphazard record at best. But I have been told that three-dimensional characters are much more interesting than two; so the adventure rings truer once I confess:
  • I miss my friends. I can last a while on my own, my thoughts and books and journal and camera keep me entertained. I am one of those who can sit and watch people (almost) all day and think. Yet I miss my friends. People I know and who know me.
  • I miss wearing clothes other than cargo pants and t-shirts. I want my brown leather bomber jacket. I want my TR jeans. And damnit I even want my long flowy wrinkly skirt! There you go. I am a girl after all.
  • It takes me 2x as long to get ready anywhere because my stuff is in a different place every night. Now, where did I put my contacts?
  • So annoying that the keyboard is different. Notice I have been spelling out and not contracting "I have been" - it is because I cannot find the bloody key!! I see the "at" sign but no way for me to type it because alt or shift or ctrl or any combo of those do not result in it. Crap.
  • I miss my laptop.

Okay, now that is done!!

I am in Merida, in the Yucatan region of Mexico (eastern peninsula), where the weather is warmer, the people more casual (and less used to Asian girls traveling solo, or Asians in general), the colors a bit brighter, the city smaller albeit just as busy. From this internet cafe I look out to the Centro, the town plaza, which is my next hangout place after this post is done. Mexican cities have proud centrals, displaying the flag in the middle of a park surrounded by important buildings like a church or cathedral, a museum or government building. This one is no different. And I best go to it before the sun goes down.

word up on the @ symbol. that's a serious pet peeve with keyboards in Meh-he-co, but the zocalos make up for it.

@ in Mexico = Alt Gr + 2
@ in Mexico = Alt Gr + Q
(Try the two options)

About missing your friends, it was you who wrote: "I travel because sometimes, when I’m wise, I return with a greater appreciation for home (and friends)..."

1) at least when you miss your friends you're allowed to have a (stiff) drink.
2) I miss my black leather jacket. I think I actually like the option of feeling a little cold at times without having to turn on an AC and get sick from its recyclyed air.
3) what, you didn't take your laptop with you? :-)
4) Mexican cities sound a lot more planned out than cities here... again :-)
5) I best go before the sun comes up
